Day 2 – Little house and the Badlands

We started out for the Badlands National Park and along the way we saw the sign for the Laura IngallsWilder Memorial Monument in De Smet, South Dakota.  It was about an hour away from I90 but the girls were pretty excited so…

After the visit with Laura Ingles we had to find our way back to the interstate and the back on track to the Badlands NP.  We ended up driving on two lane road for several hours.  The “outback” South Dakota was amazing.  So far, this is the only place I’ve been that reminded me of the African savanna.  The wide open spaces were great.

Along the way we saw another “World’s Largest” – here it is.

We made it to the Badlands a little to late to see it all but we got a good, if too short look at some amazing  land.

(SB800 fired from right with ebay trigger after dark – see Timmy the buffalo our new trip mascot?  He’s on th right side of the sign)

The Sinclair station is still alive and well out here in S.D and the girls got to ride “Dino” the dinosaur.

We ended our day in Rapid City, S.D. – long day but we saw a lot of neat stuff.

Tomorrow is the 1880 train, Mt.Rushmore, and Custer’s last stand.
