The Color Yellow
Most of the time I take pictures of stuff that interests me. But everything I read says have a subject in mind before you pick up the camera. That makes sense but sometimes it is harder than you might think to figure out what you want to take a picture of… I guess that’s the point. Anyway with that in mind I’m thinking about entering a photo contest with the subject being yellow. The prize is not a big deal, it is a book or some such thing but I need something to get me to think about what to take photo of. Note that I said photo not picture. To me picture means “snapshot” and photo means planned and calculated image with it’s light managed and results preconceived. I got out Monday and took pictures of Yellow. The picture below is from just down the street.
In this photo I wanted to have a very bright flower and a dark background so I cranked up the shutter as fast as I could and still sync with the flash. Actually the shutter was too fast for the snyc speed but it worked anyway – I don’t really know how but it did. I light the picture with a SB-800 covered with a Lumiquest lightbox III. It worked really nice adding some soft light.
There were bees everywhere but they were very docile and interested in nothing but the pollen. I was lucky enough to have this big guy fly around the flower several times and make the landing just at the right time… some of this is luck – you can’t plan that!
There is a little family vegetable market that has a big sunflower garden and they like people to take pictures. There is nothing I can think of right now that is more yellow. I hope you like it. I’ll be posting some others from the day too. I found some nice autumn yellow leaves too!
