Basketball – still tweaking the speedlights
Another home game gave me the opportunity to photograph some more basketball and to continue to tweak the lighting in the gym. Once again I used the SB800 and SB600 cross lighting the gym. Again I mounted the lights in the abandoned clock baskets about 10 feet up. This time I made a few changes to the lighting in an attempt to reduce the “washed out” look that I was getting. First thing I tried was to just cut the power down to 1/8 on both flashes. That just didn’t seem to really provide enought light to get the job done. The result still wasn’t what I hoped for so at half time I changed the SB800 back to 1/4 power but I added a diffuser. The SB600 I left down at 1/8 power because I only have one diffuser. The lights are triggered with my 16 channel poverty wizards so they didn’t both fire more than 50% of the time. I still gotta get some Radio Poppers!
The result was an improvement. Maybe if I can pickup another diffuser for the SB600 I’m might be right where I need to be.
