Photo Shoot with Brooke
I had the opportunity to do a photo shoot with a young lady named Brooke the other night. It was a good time and we experimented with several different looks. The first was my favorite white background stuff. We also did some work with using just rim lights and a one light setup too.
These were all shot with Alien Bees 800s using soft boxes. In each of these photos Brooke was set to the max sync speed of my D300 (250) and F5.6. The light power and position was changed as needed to make those numbers.
Here are some of the shots we made. (click for a larger version)
This first shot uses a medium sized soft box camera left and two medium strip boxes aimed at the back ground set at F8 behind and to either side of Brooke. Brooke was exposed at F5.6
This shot is a with the medium sized soft box behind Brooke (to her right) about a foot and about 8-10 inches in front of her. We moved her around until the tip of her nose registered 5.6 on the meter. It was then converted to B/W in Lightroom.
Both of these shots These are made using a single medium sized soft box camera right again with the meter reading 5.6 on Brooks cheek closest to the soft box.
This last shot is probably my favorite. This is just the two small strip boxed and no front light. The meter on the back corner of her shoulders read 5.6
The big story here is that this was the first time I’ve used my new Sekonic 358 meter and it was great. I’ll share more about the meter in a future post.
