I’ve got to get this off my chest

Okay, this really isn’t about photography but there are hundreds of you that are kind enough to visit this website every day and I suppose that gives me a voice.  Right now I need to say something…

I’m pissed off – really, really pissed off.  Last night someone came into my garage and stole my bike.  It was a carbon fiber road bike, a 2008 Peloton.  This bike was the first bike I’d bought in more than 15 years.  It was last year’s model and it was priced reduced so I splurged.  I thought I’d have it for 15 years too.  I’ve been riding it 20 – 50 miles at a time all summer several times a week.  I just finished filing a police report but the officer said it was very unlikely that I would ever see it again.  I have a small chance because I happened to have the serial number for the bike but only a small chance.

I’ve lived in this house for more than 14 years.  We have never had a problem of any kind.  We live in a nice suburban neighborhood converted from a farm field.  We know almost all of our neighbors and we’ve always left the garage door open so they could drop in or the neighborhood kids could run in and out of the house whenever they wanted.  Now I suppose I need to rethink that – at least for a while.

The idea that some punk, probably a punk kid in the neighborhood would actually enter my garage – my house and take my bike is unfathomable to me.  The Officer said he had a good idea who would have taken it.  It was probably the son of one of the families we don’t know.  They live half a dozen houses down and the kid is in trouble pretty frequently.  He’s apparently on house arrest for theft.  You can’t be sure it was him unless they catch him – yeah I’ll be walking by to see if I see the bike in the garage or yard or somewhere – hey he’s stupid.   The police said it was probably for drugs.  Apparently, today’s drug dealer will accept merchandise at a reduced value and then sell it to a “fence” who’ll take it out of town.

I don’t think I can turn the bike in for insurance because I’m afraid it would jack up my rates higher than the return on the bike.

Well, here’s the last picture of my bike.  I snapped it with the iPhone last Friday after a 20 mile ride.  It was a good ride.

I’ll miss my bike and it might quite a while before I can get another one.  Thanks for the opportunity to vent.
