A while back I was lucky enough to pick up a pair of old (1980s) White Lightning K10000 studio strobes.  They were old but in very good shape and worked flawlessly within their limits.  Those limits were primarily that they had only 3 power settings – Full, 2/3, and 1/3 power and they didn’t have [...]

The Northern KY Wedding, Fashion & Portrait Photographers met at the Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption in Covington, KY.  What a beautiful Church.   What a beautiful Church.  Tammy Bryan is the group leader and she was able to convince  a beautiful young bride to be to model for us in the church.  Emily will be [...]

I have been waiting to make the move into the TTL radio triggers for what seems like forever now and I finally made the [...]

I’ve been using eBay Poverty Wizards from Gadget Infinity (GI)  to remotely fire my flashes until I can get my hands on the Radio Poppers or the new Pocket Wizard TTL radio triggers.
I can’t say I’ve been crazy in love with my GI Poverty Wizards.  Sure, they’re better than running sync cables all over the [...]

I been having a little fun with double exposures and Photoshop.   My Self portrait drinking of drinking/pouring a beer was [...]

Another  home game gave me the opportunity to photograph some more basketball and to continue to tweak the lighting in the gym. Once again I used the SB800 and SB600 cross lighting the gym. Again I mounted the lights in the abandoned clock baskets about 10 feet up. This time I [...]

The snow broke and the basketball games stopped getting canceled!   I was able to shoot another game and this time I had both lights at the same level and pointed in at the same location just above the key. Both lights were in old clock cages that were now empty. [...]

Last month in this post I talked about how I lit a high school basketball gym with two speed lights.
The thing that I wasn’t able to get right the first time was the location of my lights.  I had to put them both off to one side and higher the basket.   The diagram below shows [...]
